HERAKLION ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is one the great museums of Greece and the best in the world regarding the Minoan art as it contains the most notable and complete collection of artifacts of the Minoan civilization of Crete.

After the Museum’s complete renovation in 2014 its exhibition now occupies 27 rooms. The new exhibition philosophy is organized according to modern museological standards.

The Minoan collection will give you a complete image of the Cretan civilization. It consists of objects like pottery, small sculptures, jewellery, wall paintings, everyday objects etc. Here, among others, you will have the chance to see the figurines of the Snake Godess, the famous Minoan Malia Bees, King Minos’ ring, the frescoes from the palace of Knossos.

Besides the Minoan collection, other periods of Cretan history are covered, from the Neolithic to the Greco-Roman period.
